Nanoradio supplies "Always ON WiFi" TM for Sharp

Fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) using dual mode cellular/Wi-Fi handsets is set to be a rapidly developing market in Japan and low power Wi-Fi modules with high data throughput is a critical enabling technology for this application. The partnership takes advantage of combining Sharps’ expertise in providing module solutions to the wireless market and Nanoradio’s background as a fabless semiconductor company specialised in complete solutions, chipsets and system software, for Wi-Fi applications. Nanoradio's NRX700/2 - "Always On WiFi"TM - is a highly integrated WLAN 802.11b/g chipset with a very low foot-print and with embedded firmware and drivers.

The Nanoradio NRX700/2 Wi-Fi chipset offers fully tested 802.11b/g functionality, fully WiFi certified, featuring ultra-low power consumption (doubling of the standby time compared to other standard dual Wi-Fi / cellular phone offerings), on-chip power management, Bluetooth co-existence, FMCA/UMA compliance and support for both hosted and embedded solutions. The power amplifier (PA) and cellular RF filter are both built in. Another major advantage is an optimised algorithm for data, voice and Hi-Fi stereo audio.

"Sharp approved Nanoradio for its power efficient design and high integration level. The Nanoradio WLAN subsystem is the best in its class and will make very attractive offerings in our product portfolio" said Mr. Ryutaro Egawa, Sharp Corporation.

“We are proud that Sharp approved Nanoradio as one of WiFi provider” says Tord Wingren, President and CEO of Nanoradio. He continues: “Sharp is a leading company in Japan and a global manufacturer of wireless devices and components which perfectly complements our integrated WiFi chipset expertise.” Thomas Rex, VP Sales adds: “This is further evidence that Nanoradio has the leading WiFi technology and products for Tier 1 mobile device manufacturers.”
